What benefits does Baptism give?

 It works forgiveness of sins, rescues from death and the devil, and gives eternal salvation to all who believe this, as the words and promises of God declare.

Which are these words and promises of God?

Christ our Lord says in the last chapter of Mark: "Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned." (Mark 16:16)

The Central Thought

Baptism is far more than a human religious ceremony. Baptism "is not a work, but a treasure included in the Word. It is offered to us and received by faith" (LC IV 37). 

What is the "treasure" that God promises to give to us in Baptism? 

Read Acts 2:1--14, 29--41. What does the day of Pentecost, and Peter's sermon in particular, tell us about Jesus and about the blessings of Baptism?
